Ranger Coming Out Of The Fog

Ranger J5 Americas cup sailboat coming out of the fog. #Art #americascup #sailingart #sailart

Ranger was a J-class racing yacht that successfully defended the 1937 America's Cup, defeating the British challenger Endeavour II 4-0 at Newport, Rhode Island. It was the last time J-class yachts would race for the America's Cup. Ranger story is HERE! This is a picture of the newly created Ranger! New Ranger story HERE!

I used this cropped picture titled “Ranger, Falmouth Regatta 2012” taken by Photographer Sally Armstrong as my inspiration for the watercolor painting. Link to picture set is HERE! The buoy and seals were obviously added.

This image depicts two value studies on the left that I used to understand how I wanted to portray the clouds and ocean relative to each other along with the picture and my first pass at Ranger!

A progress picture as I began to paint the buoy.
