Woman in Falvaterra

Falvaterra is a hillside municipality in the Province of Frosinone in the Italian region Lazio, located about 62 mi southeast of Rome and about 12 miles southeast of Frosinone. My grandfather Sosio Andreozzi immigrated to America from here with a number of his friends. Many of the families are still close today, generations later.

In this class assignment by led by Anne Wert at the Providence Arts Club we were asked to paint in the style of Richard Diebenkorn. While many classmates reproduced his amazing work, I tried to draft his style to capture this moment, a picture I took of a woman in an alley of Falvaterra. I don’t pretend it did Diebenkorn an iota of justice, but I loved trying.
